A car is a valuable asset. Paintwork, leather and vinyl are like the skin on humans. Our skin gets damaged if we don’t wear sunscreen. Likewise so does the skin on our cars.

Paintwork, leather and vinyl need moisturising and protectants. These sunscreens should be applied to your car every 3 months. Wax is sunscreen for your paintwork. Likewise there are moisturizers and sunscreens for leather and vinyl.

The average thickness of modern paint is thin. About the thickness of a ‘post it note’. These are the layers on a typical modern car:

Wax (your car’s sunscreen for paint)
Clear coat (protects the ultra thin colour coat)
Colour coat (about thickness of a post it note)
Primer (stops metal from rusting)
Base metal

The wax gets worn off by sun & rain. And even just by the corrosive elements in the air which are invisible to the eye, but adhere to the top surface and if not regularly cleaned and most importantly waxed every three months the wax protectant wears away exposing the clear coat or paint. If left too long the damage keeps going down the layers until the only thing that will fix it is a paint re-spray. You’ve seen cars with faded patches on the bonnet or roof? Regular waxing would have prevented this deterioration.

LEATHER: If you have leather, we offer a safe clean and moisturizing service. It takes about 2 hours to do a standard sized car. This removes grime, marks/scuffs, makes leather supple and provides the necessary sunscreen.

Info About Your Vehicle

A car is a valuable asset. Paintwork, leather and vinyl are like the skin on humans. Our skin gets damaged if we don’t wear sunscreen. Likewise so does the skin on various areas of our cars.

Paintwork, leather and vinyl need moisturising and protectants. These sunscreens should be applied to your car every 3 months. Wax is sunscreen for your paintwork. Likewise there are moisturizers and sunscreens for leather and vinyl.

The paint on modern cars is thin. About the thickness of a ‘post it note’. These are the layers on a typical modern car:

  • Wax (your car’s sunscreen for paint)
  • Clear coat (protects the colour coat)
  • Colour coat (about thickness of a post it note)
  • Primer (stops metal from rusting)
  • Base metal

Sun, rain and corrosive elements in the air, steadily wear away at the wax on your paintwork. To maintain the paintwork wash the vehicle at least once a week to remove visible dirt and invisible surface contaminants. And every three months apply a good quality wax to put a protective layer over the cars paintwork.

If left too long the damage keeps going down the paintwork layers until the only thing that will fix it is a paint re-spray. You’ve seen cars with faded patches on the bonnet or roof? Regular waxing would have prevented this deterioration.

USEFUL TIPS:

When you wash your vehicle yourself, please consider this advice:

  1. Dishwashing detergent. This is caustic and designed to wash grease of dishes. Most people don’t know it erodes the wax (sunscreen) off your car.

  2. Household window cleaner such as Windex can seriously damage some window tints. Preferable to use non-caustic window cleaner designed for ‘car windows’ only. Check with your local auto shop for a safe window cleaner suitable for use with window tinting.

  3. Bird poo & tree sap etc:  Get it off your vehicle as quick as possible (certainly within a day) because it stains then eats through the wax then paint layers and eventually causes permanent damage which cannot be rectified by a detailer.

  4. Steering wheel and pedals:  Just clean with warm soapy water. Using silicon sprays such as Armorall can make these areas slippery which is not a good thing. However Armorall is a good product for other areas in the car. We use a professional quality product similar to Armorall on internal vinyl areas, after the area has been first cleaned.

  5. Mag & Alloy wheel cleaners:  Most alloy wheels on modern cars have a clear coating over the wheel. Using a caustic cleaner can strip the ‘clear coat’ off the wheel which will cause irreversible damage including changing the colour of the wheel and making it porous. Please contact the manufacturer of the wheel to confirm what cleaner should be used. We use hot soapy water and normal high quality car in most cases unless rectification work is required.
